Medium confuses me

As most interactions do

Schoeder’s Staris to symbolize the many me’s wandering around Medium and not figuring it out.

So here’s the thing I decided to start following people I like the titles of what they wrote or like the content of their articles (Because I only have 3 articles a month, and I have various accounts… so I’ve read about 60 something stories). I’ve decided that I won’t become a Medium paying member until I get deep into writing and become mesmerized by it. I know it’s maybe asking too much, but I’m afraid that if I don’t solidify writing and I have access to ALL of Medium’s articles, I’ll be too distracted to actually write, which would defy the whole purpose of joining Medium in the first place.

So. Basic clarifications made.

Now, Medium confuses me.

I’ve received 6 claps from another user that follows me. I don’t understand what that means. Does it mean she (I assume) really liked my story? Does it mean she wants me to clap at his work? But most importantly, what the hell does she think about such a story? Cause I mean, claps, like likes, aren’t much data to work with.

What specifically did she like about it? The tone? The tempo? What idea did he felt enjoyable? What is it that’s absolutely despicable about such a story? What did she not understand (cause I’m a mess at editing)?

If I become likable it will be a huge failure, it will mean I no longer shake you in any way, shape, or form. Pic courtesy of Christopher Campbell.
